35

Even though my undergraduate school seems like an eon ago (oh, my gosh), I still remember the pace and structure of all of my courses. As an economics major and steeped in tradition, several strong professors guided me in

  • microeconomics,
  • macroeconomics,
  • history of business and
  • logistics.

Additionally, my minor was in mathematics, so I oozed into a string of geniuses, both other students and mentors as well every day.

Scared and frightened, I was very uneasy taking classes with the Giants. Still, I remember over time realizing that the pieces of the puzzle were getting clearer. My understanding the material I was studying was now making incredible sense. It was almost like starting in a fog and then, in a blink of an eye, seeing a tranquil vision and crystal clear goals.

Hesitancy and Doubt

In fact, as we get older, we approach more complex issues and tricky situations with hesitancy and doubt. We all try very hard to prepare us just like we were back in school, to use the systems of our early days. But, for some reason, some people forget all the knowledge, experience or training they absorb.

In other words, they procrastinate.

They sidestep.

They waffle.

One way or another, we experience this, don’t we?

Think for Yourself

So, what’s the solution?

Going back to my studies once again, on my spare time, I was a DJ. Dubbed Surfin’ Herb, I played alternative rock and wore several T-shirts from the days for variety. One in particular (originally by the Beatles) that I enjoyed immensely and slipped on often. The T-shirt simply said, “Think for Yourself.”

Likewise, one could read a book on procrastination. Yes, being more organized, or more time sensitive or more attuned to what is going on is a very good suggestion.

Yet, at the same time, think for yourself.

At the end of the day, I consider you

  • a visionary,
  • to listen,
  • to explore and most importantly,
  • to follow-up of a beacon of imagination.

In other words, with earnest, think for yourself.

Razor’s Edge

So even though I do slip and fall, from time to time, I am always my particular person with my own thoughts and inspiration. Right or wrong, I focus my attention on my assets once again.

What about you? Do you seize your “razor’s edge”?
